First, check whether the text is already selectable

If the screenshot came from a web page or document, return to the original and try selecting the text there. That keeps links and formatting. OCR is the fallback when the original is gone or the words are trapped in a picture.

Prepare the screenshot

Crop out browser chrome and unrelated images. Keep enough context to distinguish similar labels, and enlarge very small text before saving if the screenshot is still sharp. Avoid repeated JPEG exports.

Extract the words

Upload the file to screenshot to text. The result is plain, editable text rather than a visual copy of the screen, so you can search it, quote it, or paste it into a ticket.

Review UI text carefully

OCR may join adjacent labels, omit an icon that carries meaning, or confuse a code character. Compare error messages, URLs, account numbers, and keyboard shortcuts with the original screenshot before sharing them.
